Beloved wife of 65 years to Walter. Loving mother of Michael and Suzanne (Andrew), Omi to Oliver, Julia (Amanda), and Niki (Scott), Brady, Sloan. Best friend of Sigi, the Dachshund.

Marion Lanz spent her last weeks at her home, looking out to the garden, and surrounded by family, friends, neighbours, and dogs. She died peacefully there in the early hours of July 17 and is now reunited with her beloved husband, Walter, who predeceased her just last September.

Born in Hamburg, Germany, Marion’s early years were shaped by the challenges of World War II. As a young teenager after the end of the war, Marion and her parents immigrated to Canada to start a new life. These early experiences forged a resilience that she carried throughout her life.

As a young woman, Marion’s adventurous spirit took her to Sweden to train at a hair salon, where she first met Walter. After parting ways, Walter was determined not to let her go, eventually following Marion to Toronto. The two were married in Scarborough, beginning a beautiful, lifelong partnership. Marion and Walter built a life rooted in deep love, hard work, and good fortune.

Together they owned and operated Chic Hair Stylists for 30+ years. They poured their hearts into the business, building a community of wonderful staff and loyal customers. Their home in West Hill, where they lived for the rest of their lives, was their sanctuary and the vibrant heart of the family. After retiring, they helped raise their grandchildren, had many years of travel adventures, and enjoyed their home surrounded by nature and wonderful neighbours.

Marion was a sweet soul with a feisty spirit and kind heart. She loved people and always took time for a chat, making new friends wherever she went. A lover of children, nature, and animals, she welcomed all to her doorstep – with popsicles for the little ones, treats for dogs, seed for the birds, and (illicit) snacks for the array of wildlife that passed through her property.

Marion’s grace, warmth, and enduring love will be missed forever by her family and the many lives she touched. A private gathering will be held in the near future.
