LAST, Gloria Filomena Last
February 23, 2026
Our joyful, loving, and amazing mother died peacefully at home here in Toronto on February 23rd, 2026, with her family by her side. She is pre-deceased by husband Thomas, daughter Aurelia, her father Pete, mother Philomena, brothers Ronnie and Bert, and her sister Aurelia. Mom was an exceptional employee at Eatons, working in their catalogue division as an executive secretary until it closed. After her time at Eatons, she worked at Health Sciences Respiratory Dept. as an administrative secretary. She was a devoted wife and the most loving mother and friend one could possibly have in life. Her talent and love for music and dance continued throughout her 97 years on this earth.
She could play a piano boogie that would knock your socks off and her jive dance moves often created a sensation on the floor! She was well known for her sense of humour and beautiful, infectious laugh. Her fashion and decorative style was always funky, with a great affection for what she called “Conversational Pieces.” She would often pop into a room to surprise us with her latest fashion discovery, lighting up the room with joy and laughter. Her many talents also included her incredible sewing skills, creating many dance costumes from scratch, knitting, gardening, cooking, baking, and so much more! Our family cottage at Winnipeg Beach was her happy place, where she entertained and shared many get-togethers, boisterous card games and precious times with family and adopted family! She was loved by her family and friends as well as all her adopted animal friends and pets.
It’s no wonder she is so cherished, as she always gave so much more than she took, and without expectations. Gloria was the epitome of a life filled with grace and kindness. Something to aspire to and be inspired by. Dance, sing and laugh with the angels now Mom. And although we will miss you so, we know you are watching over all of us. On behalf of Glory, Doug, Shirley (Aurelia’s wife), Little Doug, Yoda, and all our family and friends, you will be forever in our hearts. We would also like to extend a special thank you and gratitude to the Temmy Latner Palliative Care Agency. Dr. Schneider, Jessica, Thandi, and Karen helped make it possible for Mom to be at home to the end, surrounded by love. Mom’s Family Physician, Dr. Robert Heyding, has a very special place in our hearts as well for his incredible care of Mom in her time here. And thank you to Gihan at the Leaside pharmacy for her skillful care and provision of Gloria’s medications.
We are planing Memorials at a later time in Toronto and Winnipeg and will make the details available when we have finalized them. People have asked if there is a special charity that they can donate to. Gloria gave to so many different organizations, so if you feel inclined, please do so to the charity of your choice in her name.
