LEE, Carol Yeng Kean Lee

As the third of four children, and the only daughter, she learned from a young age to assert herself. At eighteen, she took a loan from her grandfather to attend university in Singapore. There, she studied English literature, made lifelong friends, worked in publishing, taught English as a Second Language, and met her husband, Tony Lee. They were married in 1973 after a whirlwind courtship of 7 just months! Despite growing up with Elvis and the Beatles, Carol grew to love Mozart, Beethoven, and encouraged and supported her husband’s classical music activities – proof of true love indeed!

Carol was utterly devoted to Tony, and he to her. Their marriage brought them two children. In 1977, the family immigrated to Canada, first to Vancouver, BC, then to Oakville, ON, where she taught grades 3 and 5 at the Oakville Christian School and mentored several of the younger new teachers there. Carol and her husband led the Chartwell Marriage Enrichment ministry for 16 years.

When Carol and Tony returned to Vancouver in 2002, they immersed themselves in a thriving community of fellow Christians at Grace Vancouver Church. Carol attended Bible Study Fellowship for many years and was one of their group discussion leaders. She had the gift of hospitality and often welcomed people into her home for a meal and volunteered to help those in need. In her last decades, Carol enjoyed following Tony on his leisure travels and indulging her two grandchildren, but she was happiest at home with just Tony.

She is missed and lovingly remembered by her husband, brother Tong Kim (in Malaysia); children Ying (Nick) and Khai (Andrea); two grandchildren Sebastian and Helena; and her church family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Aug 25 from 6pm – 8pm at Mt. Pleasant Funeral Home, 306 E. 11th Ave, Vancouver. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a future date.
