LEISHMAN, Wayne Leishman
August 8, 2026
It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved husband and father, Wayne, at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital, on Saturday, August 8, 2026. Lovingly remembered by his wife, Karen (née Teare), and children, Caitlin Leishman (Thomas Vaculik) and Emily Leishman (David Wilson). Predeceased by an infant son, Nicholas.
Wayne Leishman will be sadly missed by his loving mother, Jacqueline (Jackie) MacGillivray (the late Don MacGillivray) and sisters Sandra (Sandy) Cameron (Robert), and Patricia “Patty” Teske (Shawn), of Sault Ste. Marie, and Nancy Keenan (Tim), of St. Joseph Island. We take comfort in knowing that Wayne is now reunited with his sister, Wendy, and father, Frederick (Ted) Leishman. Wayne will be fondly remembered by his father-in-law, Jim Teare (Jane Jones), brother-in-law, Kevin Teare, and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his mother-in-law, Diane Teare.
We will always remember Wayne for his generosity, good humour, and a propensity for puns that he inherited from his father.
Growing up in Sault Ste. Marie, Wayne enjoyed playing local hockey and baseball, and attended Cody Public School, Bawating High School, and then Sault College for computer programming. After graduating, Wayne moved to Toronto for work and has lived in Cambridge, Ontario since 1990.
Wayne’s greatest joy was his daughters. His career involved travelling a fair bit but he never failed to bring home a small gift for each of them. One year, he travelled weekly to San Francisco. This was during the height of the Beanie Baby craze so every week, he brought back a new Beanie Baby for each of them. How he remembered which ones he had already purchased was a mystery, but he rarely bought duplicates. All of those Beanie Babies are still safely stored waiting to be played with again. Wayne also loved fishing and had many memorable trips, including one trip with his dad, brother-in-law, Rob, and Rob’s father, to a fly-in lodge in northern Ontario. Wayne also portaged in Algonquin Park many times with his good friend and cousin-in-law, David Deraiche. Wayne and David’s most recent trip was in June when they spent a week fishing at Ranger Lake and then visited family in the Sault on their way home. Wayne was also looking forward to planning fishing trips with his sons-in-law, David and Thomas – each year, they received new fishing lures and tackle from Wayne for Christmas.
Friends and family are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758) on Friday, August 28, 2026, from 12 noon until time of service in the chapel at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Helen Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or your local Humane Society would be appreciated by the family. Wayne also chose to be a tissue donor to the Ontario Health Trillium Gift of Life Network and we were extremely proud to honour Wayne’s wishes.
