It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Leonard Joseph Richard, age 83, of Oshawa, Ontario on Friday, September 18th, 2026.
Leonard was born in Grande-Digue, New Brunswick on January 8th, 1943. He was the son of Raymond and Clarinda (Haché) Richard.
From beginning to end, Leonard was a dedicated husband to his wife, Rita of 58 years. He was the anchor of his family: He was a warm and steadfast presence to his children, Michael (Anita), Sue (Andy), and Mark (Laura); an amazing grandfather to Dena (Jim), Hannah, Emma, Luke, Lily, and Ella; and a wonderful friend to many.
He will be dearly missed by his brothers; Lucien (Alice), Alphonse (Linda); sisters, Helen and Geraldine; brother-in-law, Emile; as well as his many nephews and nieces. Leonard was predeceased by his brother Aimé (Leona), and sisters Louise, Jeanita, and Juliette (Oswald).
Leonard was always full of energy and cared for his friends and family. He could make anyone feel welcome and made fast friends with everyone he met. He loved rock ’n’ roll music, classic cars, and dancing.
He was proud to work at General Motors for 39 years and enjoyed many years of retirement. He filled his final years with visiting family, dancing at the Legion, and of course, fitting in his daily hour-long walks.
Leonard’s kindness and love for his family will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
Lenny, thank you for every hug, every lesson, and the wonderful life you gave us.
Please join us for a celebration of life at the Oshawa Funeral Home (847 King St W, Oshawa ON) on October 10, 2026. The visitation will be held at 11:30 in the afternoon, followed by a funeral service at 1:30pm.
