LETRONDO, Josefa Papa Letrondo

February 19, 1932 - June 26, 2026
LETRONDO, Josefa Papa Letrondo

Peacefully passed away on June 26, 2026, at the age of 94.

Mama Josie was born on February 19, 1932, the youngest of six children. She was preceded by her siblings: Tarcela Papa, Buenaventura Papa, Tranquilino Papa, and twin sisters Crescencia Papa and Celerina Papa-Sescon.

At the tender age of two, Josefa experienced the profound loss of both her parents. Her mother passed away, and shortly thereafter, her father also passed away later that same day. Though she never had the opportunity to know a mother’s love and care, she was lovingly raised by her aunt, Ricarda Baylosis Papa, her father’s sister, who became an important source of guidance and support throughout her childhood.

Despite these early hardships, Josefa grew into a woman of remarkable strength, resilience, faith, and compassion. Qualities that would define her throughout her life.

Later on, she married her first husband, Pablo Emeliano. Together, they built a life by the sea in Sta. Filomena, Alegria, Cebu, Philippines, where their family story began. A few years into their marriage, they lovingly adopted Emeteria (Emee) Emeliano at the young age of six months. Pablo passed away at the age of 75, leaving Josefa widowed.

Years later, she married Vicente Letrondo, and together they immigrated to Canada through the sponsorship of Lourdes Letrondo-Wing. They worked side by side as production assemblers in an electronics company for many years. Vicente later passed away at the age of 90, and Josefa was widowed for a second time.

Throughout her years in Canada, Josefa remained devoted to her Catholic faith. She actively participated in religious activities, including the Daughters of Isabella, novenas every Friday dedicated to Sr. Sto. Niño at the St. John XXIII Parish Church, and other various church functions. Her faith was a guiding force throughout her life.

Josefa Papa Letrondo also found great joy in cooking, especially making her beloved biko, which was always requested at family gatherings, celebrations, and special occasions. She was known for her thoughtfulness, generosity, and loving nature. Josefa often placed the needs of others before her own. She touched the lives of many through her kindness, faith, and unwavering care for family and friends.

She was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of everyone.
