Loving step father to Casey Penney, brother to Irwin (Linda), uncle to Megan (Matt) and Katie (Jason) and great uncle to Claudia and Ian Liddle.
Dave never missed a birthday and was extremely generous to the kids.
Dave was born in Northern Ireland and emigrated to Canada as a child in 1957. He lived most of his life in Toronto, graduating high school and attending York University. While in high school he started working part time for Dominion Stores and began his career in the grocery store business: Dominion, A and P and Metro where he retired. Over the course of his lengthy career Dave made many friends among his co-workers and will be fondly remembered. Dave was musically talented and in Junior high he played trombone in the school band. He also joined the Northern Ireland Accordion band and was band master for 5 of his 10 or so years there. He later formed a pick up bar band with some friends which lasted a few years.
Dave was usually strumming or drumming at home to pass the time. He was also a serious CrossWord solver and a great cook. His soups and Moroccan stews were second to none.
Dave relocated to Flinton after retiring and he lived a quiet life among new friends and neighbours until he could no longer live on his own. Many thanks to friends in the village for looking out for Dave and his chores. Dave relocated to Moira Place in Tweed, where he ultimately passed after a brief illness.
Many thanks to all the staff there and Dr. Andy Quinn for their excellent and compassionate care. In Dave’s memory donations to the Humane Society or Animal Welfare agency will be welcomed.
