It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Lucie Marie Juliette Brings on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at Ed’s House Hospice in Cobourg surrounded by the love of her family and friends.
Born in the St-Pascal neighborhood of Québec in 1952, Lucie grew up in a lively and loving family as one of six children. The family home was next door to their grocery store, and like her siblings, Lucie learned from an early age the importance of family and helping wherever she could.
Lucie was the older of two sisters, and her younger sister, Lise, followed her everywhere. Lucie spent three years as a boarder at the convent in Rivière-à-Pierre, Québec, two years with her brother Gilles and one year with Lise. She excelled at school, studied piano for three years, and was naturally creative and skilled with her hands. Above all, she was a caring big sister who continued to look after Lise throughout their lives, even after the loss of their parents when Lucie was just 16.
In 1968, Lucie left Alma, Québec, with her friend Pâquerette and came to Ontario to learn English, a courageous beginning to the life and adventures that followed.
Lucie was the beloved wife of Addy for 38 years, cherished mother to Lydia (Kevin) and Lisa (Brian), and stepmother to Diane (Alfred). She was a loving Omi to Madalynn (Dustin), Nicholas, Eden, Konrad, and Micheal, and a proud Great-Omi to her first great-grandchild, Wesley.
Her family described her perfectly: bold, resilient, determined, sparkly, competitive, courageous, radiant, and unique. These qualities were woven into everything she did.
She will be fondly remembered by her siblings Lise (Michel), Gilles (Lucie), Benoit (Pauline), and Jacques. She was predeceased by her parents, Gabrielle and Gerard; her brother Daniel (Elaine); and her stepdaughter, Kerstin.
Lucie loved life and embraced adventure. For more than 20 years, she and Addy travelled together, spending winters in Florida and Belize before discovering their happy place in Mexico. She loved the beach, the sound of the waves and the warmth of the sun. She was always ready to try somewhere new, experience something different and meet new people. And wherever she went, she made friends.
She also had a wonderfully playful side. There was almost always money tucked away for ice cream, usually hidden somewhere clever with her lipstick, and her pantry was never without cookies. She was fiercely competitive and was known to make up her own rules when playing cards, board games or lawn games, rules that somehow seemed to work very much in her favor. She had a unique sense of style, a beautiful smile, and an infectious laugh that could light up a room.
Lucie will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but her spirit, courage, laughter, and love of life will live on in those who knew and loved her.
She spent her final days surrounded by family and friends at Ed’s House Hospice. The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the compassionate teams at Ed’s House Hospice and Northumberland Hills Hospital for the kindness, dignity, and care they provided to Lucie and her family.
In keeping with Lucie’s wishes, cremation has taken place. If desired, memorial donations to Ed’s House, Northumberland Hospice Care Centre would be appreciated by the family.
Rest peacefully, Mom. We will carry your sparkle with us always. ❤️
