MACORETTA , Anthony Joseph ‘Chic’ Macoretta

MACORETTA, Anthony Joseph ‘Chic’ β With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Anthony ‘Chic’ Macoretta, following a hard-fought battle with Parkinson’s. He passed away, surrounded by the love of his family, at the St. Catharines General Hospital on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at the age of 88.
Beloved husband and best friend of Anne (nee Millen) for 63 years. Cherished father to Dennis, Ron, and Darren. Proud and loving grandpa to Sydney, Ashlyn, Camden, and Paige. Survived by his sisters Carmel (Don) Ciancio and Rose (Don) Kerr. Predeceased by his parents Michael and Mary (nee Luciani) and sister Josephine (Dino) DiMaurzio.
Anthony was born and raised in Thorold, and from a young age excelled in organized sports, specifically hockey, baseball, tennis, and golf. He was the proud recipient of the James Whyte trophy in 1954 for ‘most sportsman-like athlete’ and was inducted to the Thorold Sports Wall of Fame in 2010.
Anthony was employed with General Motors in the Materials Management department for 37 years, retiring in 1991. He enjoyed a long and happy retirement traveling with his wife and spending time on the golf course. Over the years, Chic and Anne established countless friendships through sports and stayed closely connected with their MAC Alumni friends for more than 50 years.
Always the gentleman, Anthony was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. They donβt make them like this anymore!
Cremation has taken place. Friends are invited to join the family at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines, visiting Wednesday, July 23, 2025, from 6 to 9 pm. Vigil prayers will be held at 7 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, July 24, 2025, at 11 am at St. Alfred Roman Catholic Church (272 Vine Street), with the Rite of Committal to follow at Victoria Lawn Cemetery.
In memory of Chic, memorial contributions may be made to Parkinson Canada or The St. Vincent de Paul Society (St. Alfred Church), and would be appreciated.
