PTOLEMY, Madeline Carroll Ptolemy
January 19, 1939 - June 27, 2026
It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Madeline Carroll Ptolemy, following a lengthy battle with kidney disease, on June 27, 2026, at Bridgepoint Hennick Hospital. Madeline was born on January 19, 1939, in Thornbury, Ontario.
Madeline is reunited with her beloved husband, George Ptolemy, who predeceased her in 2022 after 66 wonderful years of marriage, and with her son, Wayne Ptolemy.
She leaves behind her loving children, Douglas Ptolemy, father of Avery and Alex, and their mother Patricia; Carroll Wilson and her husband, Bryan, parents of Kristeen and Jennifer; and Sheila Ceko and her husband, John, parents of Rebecca and Courtney. Madeline was a devoted mother and proud grandmother whose greatest joy was her family.
Following her marriage to George in 1955, Madeline made Toronto her home. After retiring early at the age of 55, she and George embraced a life filled with travel and adventure. They spent countless summers at their cherished cottage in Elmvale and developed a special love for Cuba, visiting the island more than 30 times over the years. At home, some of their happiest moments were spent together each morning, tackling the Toronto Star crossword puzzles and Sudoku.
Madeline was an extraordinary woman who balanced practicality with warmth and compassion. A true matriarch, she was known for speaking her mind with honesty and for loving her family fiercely. Even as her health declined, her thoughts remained focused on the well-being of her children and grandchildren. When her mobility became limited, she found purpose in knitting teddy bears, proudly donating them to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at McMaster Children’s Hospital to bring comfort to families during difficult times.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated physicians, nurses, and staff at St. Michael’s Hospital and Bridgepoint Hennick Hospital for the exceptional care, compassion, and kindness shown to Madeline throughout her illness.
Madeline will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, extended family, and many friends. Her strength, generosity, and unwavering devotion to those she loved will be remembered always.
