Alan Todd Marchand

May 3, 1962 – October 4, 2024

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Alan Marchand on October 4, 2024, after a long battle with esophageal cancer. Alan served as a captain with Whitby Fire and Emergency Services, beginning his esteemed career as a volunteer on October 20, 1988, and transitioning to a full-time firefighter role on October 10, 1989. Known as a resilient and dedicated individual, he was always willing to go above and beyond for his fellow firefighters. Alan was an active member of Local 2036 and frequently participated in the annual boot toll. After dedicating nearly 29 years of service, he retired, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of commitment and professionalism in the field of firefighting.

Alan received the Governor General Award Fire Services Exemplary Services Medal in March 2010, a testament to his dedication to the Whitby Fire Department. He will be deeply missed by his sister Lisa and her family in Kelowna, BC, his Aunt Sue, Uncle Wade in Alberta, Aunt Kathy in New Brunswick, Aunt Viv in Toronto, Aunt Anne in Calgary, and many beloved cousins.

Alan is predeceased by his father Robert “Bob” Marchand, mother Judy Lefurgey, Uncle David Lefurgey, and cousins Bradley and Nicholas.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Whitby Fallen Memorial Fund (Line of Duty Deaths) or to Wounded Warriors Canada to support first responders and military personnel struggling with mental health issues.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, November 7, 2024, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at Barnes Memorial Funeral Home, 5295 Thickson Road North, Whitby, ON. Family, friends, and colleagues are welcome to share their memories and condolences during this time.

Memories and notes of condolence may be shared at Barnes Memorial Funeral Home.
