MARCHEN, Michael Marchen
December 29, 1960 - November 18, 2025
In his 65th year, Michael passed away at home on the farm surrounded by his family after an illness he fought with every ounce of strength he had, meeting each day with remarkable courage.
Mike son of the late Gloria Maudsley and the late Grant Marchen.
Mike leaves behind his wife and best friend Leanne (nee Murphy) with whom he shared his love and unwavering devotion.
Beloved father of his three sons Eric, Connor, Kyle (Heidi). Mike was loved by his stepchildren Jenna (Anthony) and the late Lenard Stuart. Papa to the late Dylan and loving Grampy of Iver. Mike accepted that a cure was not to be and was most saddened by the thought he would not see Iver grow up.
Michael shared a particularly close and loving bond with his sister Ruthanne Fitzgerald
(the late Syd). Cherished uncle of Katie, Carl (Rachel), Matt and Holly.
Mike combined his passion for knowledge, holding a master’s degree in African history and International relations with a 35-year distinguished career as a police officer with the Toronto Police Service. Beyond his work, he was a loving family man, an avid photographer and horse farmer. Mike had travelled to many places in the world and of all those places his heart belonged to Africa.
Mike was a friend to many and found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He will be remembered for his kindness, his quiet strength and the love he showed to those around him.
Mike will be forever missed by his best friends Scotty Kerr and Gary McBratney.
Mike retired in 2017 and enjoyed his life on the farm surrounded by his beloved animal family showing a rare and special kindness to every creature in his care. His extraordinary way with animals brought joy to all who knew him.
Mike was treated with kindness and compassion at the Cobourg Hospital Cancer Clinic. A cure was not to be but not for the lack of exhausting all options. A special thank you to Dr Francesco Mule for his constant care, many house calls and second to none empathy. Thanks also to Mike’s homecare nurse Aaron.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation.
