It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Maria Gertrudes Cotovio, who passed away peacefully in Toronto on September 15, 2026, at the age of 87.
Born in Lourinha, Portugal on August 23, 1939, Maria built a life centered around family, love, and devotion.
Maria will be deeply missed by her loving children, Goretti, Norbert (Cecilia), and Odilia (Brad). She was a cherished Avó to Adrianna (Naman), Anabella, Alexander, Keith (Faith), Alannah (Rajean), Alicia (Ahmad), and a loving Bisavó to Melina, Dahlia, Isaiah, Azalea, and Talia. Her family was her greatest joy, and the love she had for each of them was at the heart of everything she did.
Maria found happiness in life’s simple moments. She took great pride in caring for her family and creating a home filled with warmth, comfort, and love. Whether spending time with those closest to her or simply enjoying the familiar routines of everyday life, Maria understood that some of life’s greatest blessings could be found in the smallest moments.
Her kindness, devotion, and love for her family will remain a lasting part of the many lives she touched. Though she will be greatly missed, Maria’s memory will live on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all those who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
