MARIA, WIENBERG, Maria

Born in Setschanfeld, Yugoslavia on March 3, 1926, Maria (née Prunkl) Wienberg left us on October 30, 2025.

She almost made it dancing right up to her 100th birthday. She loved being very active, mentally and physically, and was an inspiration to many. Her quick mind and strong spirit saw her through years in a Russian work labor camp, followed by a refugee camp in Austria, where she was reunited with her mother and brother. In September 1951, they immigrated to Canada, arriving in Vancouver on December 29. Just a few months later she met Rudy Wienberg, who had emigrated from Germany, at the local Alpine Club.

In 1960. Following multiple challenges, adventures, and risks, they moved to Kelowna, BC, where they raised their three children. They had a staunch work ethic, but were eventually able to enjoy their garden time and travelling the world with lasting curiosity and joy. Her taste for adventure never faded.

Cherished mother of Karen, Bruce (Susan) and Sylvia; Oma to Kerri (Sean), Morgan (Ronald), Ryan (Erin), Connor (Jessica), and Alexandra: Great-Oma to Mya, Paige, Karmyn, Amaya, Chimara and George. She was predeceased by her husband, Rudy, and brother Frank.
