MATTA, Lucena Mercado De Matta

Lucena Mercado De Matta, to whom everyone that knew her called her Nanay or Nani, peacefully passed away on June 19, 2025, in her 88th year.

Born on May 30, 1937, in San Antonio Binan Laguna, Philippines, Lucena—or Lucy—moved to Canada in 1973 with her three daughters, Jocelyn, Maura, and Anabell, to join her husband Mario. Lucy was the embodiment of wisdom, love, and strength, shaping the foundation of her family’s legacy.

She was the proud mother of three children, grandmother of seven, and great-grandmother of eight. A loving wife to the late Mario Ligaya De Matta for 46 years, Lucy’s life was devoted to nurturing her family with unconditional love, support, and guidance through every challenge and triumph.

Her legacy of love, service, and unshakable faith will be eternally cherished by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her children Jocelyn (Eddie), Maura (Allan), and Anabell (Arthur); grandchildren Jessica, Jeffrey, Calvin, Daniel, Amanda, Alexis, and Cody; and great-grandchildren Mario, Heaven, Noah, Grayson, Mila, Chase, Jose, and Atticus, along with nieces, nephews, and family friends.
