MATTHEWS, Mark Matthews

Passed away at his home in Waterloo on the evening of Monday, November 3, 2025. He was 73 and had been in poor health for some time.

Born in Kitchener on May 18, 1952, Mark is survived by his beloved wife Heather (nee McMichael) of 28 years. He also leaves his son Sean (from a previous marriage) and grandson Liam, both of London, Ontario; Mark’s sister Penny Vanderzand and her husband Alex of Pickering; their daughter Heidi, son Andrew and four grandchildren.

After graduating from Conestoga College, Mark worked for many years as a skilled sous-chef in numerous restaurants in the Kitchener-Waterloo and Guelph area. A talented photographer, he loved to go for walks with his SLR camera and take photos of nature near his home in Waterloo. He was a fan of British Premier League soccer and enjoyed having a drink with friends at local restaurant bars. He was a good conversationalist with a distinctive strong, deep voice and quick wit.

Mark struggled with chronic health issues such as heart disease (which had claimed his father at a young age) as well as COPD. He did his best to care for his wife, who also suffered from lifelong disability. He dearly loved their two cats, Talisker and Aussie, who both lived very long lives as pets.

In memory of Mark, condolences or donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, or to the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society, or to your local food bank through the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home at 519-745-8445 or at www.erbgood.com.
