MATTUTAT, Ted Mattutat

Passed away peacefully with loved ones beside him on August 29, 2025, after a brief but difficult battle with cancer. Also known as Grumpy Gramps, Ted was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. His loss is felt dearly by his family and friends.

Ted was born May 9, 1950, in Munster, Germany, and moved to Canada with his family at three years old. He grew up in Newmarket, Ontario, and later went to Toronto to attend Ryerson Polytechnical Institute (now TMU) where he studied and received a degree in civil engineering. As a young man he enjoyed playing electric organ and synthesizer in various bands. He worked as a construction superintendent in Ontario, other parts of Canada, and the USA.

Ted was greatly enjoying his retirement. He took pleasure in boating on Lake Simcoe, snowmobiling, golf, family gatherings for the holidays, and puttering around his garage in Keswick. He will be remembered for his blunt humour, no-nonsense opinions, and unwavering loyalty and love for his family. He will be missed by many: his daughters, Laura and Bethany; grandchildren, Desmond and Simon; siblings, Peter and Monica; sister-in-law, Erika and his many nephews, nieces, other family and friends. Please contact his daughters at memoryoftedmattutat@gmail.com for details about the celebration of life that will be held on Saturday, September 20, in Keswick, Ontario.
