December 2, 1942 - July 28, 2026
MCCABE, Ronald John McCabe

Ron McCabe, loving husband, father, grandfather, beloved brother, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville, Ontario, on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, two weeks after celebrating his 58th wedding anniversary with his one and only love, Ann Marie.

Ron and his dear twin sister, Barbara, were born in Hartlepool, North Yorkshire, England, in 1942 to Ron and Tess McCabe. Ron finished school and began his career as a young teacher in England, where he had also met his lifelong friend, Dave Bouttell, at the age of 19. Ron emigrated to Durham Region, Ontario, Canada in 1966, and pursued his career in teaching with the Oshawa Separate School Board, and later continuing the rest of his career as an elementary school teacher with the Durham Public School Board. Ron met the love of his life, Ann Marie, who had moved to Ontario herself as a new teacher from Saint John, New Brunswick, in 1966, at a dance welcoming new teachers to the area. Ron and Ann

Marie wed on July 13, 1968. They brought three daughters, Penny, Sarah and Julia into the world, and raised their family for many happy decades on Lorindale Drive in Oshawa.

Ron was an avid artist, gardener, skier, golfer, and world traveller. He had a joie de vivre that he shared with whomever he met. He always had a friendly hello, a joke at the ready, and would be happy to share a pint and a good story with you. His sense of humour and his paintbrush were with him right until the end. Ron is survived by his loving wife, Ann Marie, and is lovingly remembered by his three daughters, Penny (Sean), Sarah (Eddy) and Julia (Patrick), along with his treasured grandchildren, William, Jack, Owen, and Kayla.

Deeply loved and missed by his twin sister, Barbara, and sisters Julie and Mary in England, his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, cousins, and his many nieces and nephews from both England and Canada. Ron is predeceased by his sister, Christine, (2020).

Ron is fondly remembered by his many dear friends, especially the Bouttell family.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the extraordinary staffs of Lakeridge Health Bowmanville, Critical Care Unit, and Glen Hill Strathaven Long Term Care Home. Thank you to the St. Gertrude’s community for their kindness and prayers, especially Fr. Luis.
