MCCARTNEY, Desmond McCartney
February 5, 1929 - September 13, 2025
Beloved son of George F.
McCartney and Elisabeth Teggart, left us on the morning of September 13,
2025. Des was predeceased by his loving wife Bernice (Peacock 2008) and
leaves his sons Craig and David to mourn his loss.
He was also predeceased by his two brothers, Terry (Joan) and Fred (Betsy,
Judy). He is remembered by his dear sister-in-law Joyce Hewitt (Bob) and his
many nephews and nieces here and in Alberta and British Columbia.
Des earned his B. Comm. (U of T 53) and was a Math Head and Principal for
the York Region District School Board (Richmond Hill HS, Thornlea, Langstaff
VP, Stouffville P) but was also very interested in history, art, English literature
and music.
Dad’s very calm disposition with his many talents and humour stood out.
His wonderful skills in constructing garden walls, sheds (one for his
telescope), porches, bookshelves, and outhouses will not be forgotten.
He enjoyed his summers at Mary Lake (in friendly Port Sydney).
Many thanks to the staff on floor 3 of Greenview for their tender care
Visitation will be held at MARSHALL FUNERAL HOME, 10366 Yonge Street Richmond Hill on Sunday
Sept 21 2:30-6:30 p.m., and funeral service will be in St Mary’s Anglican Church, 10030 Yonge Street
Richmond Hill on Monday Sept 22 at 11:00 a.m.
Donations (no flowers please) in Des’ name to North York General Hospital,
St Mary’s Anglican Church or a charity of your own choice would be gratefully
received.
