MCEWEN, Iris Mary McEwen
April 23, 1933 - July 11, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Iris Mary McEwen, who passed away peacefully on July 11, 2026, at the age of 93.
Iris was born on April 23, 1933, in Wellington, Prince Edward Island. She later made her home in Ontario, where she spent most of her life in Thornhill. Together with her beloved husband, Ray Charles McEwen, she built a warm and loving home, raising a close-knit family and creating a lifetime of cherished memories.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 72 wonderful years, Ray, the love of her life. Iris was a loving and devoted mother to Jeanine Hanlon (predeceased by her husband, Fon Hanlon), Marilyn Valente (Mario Valente), and Barry McEwen (Alyson McEwen).
She was a cherished grandmother to Dawn Fay (William Fay), Lisa Hanlon (Yvonne Wells), Patrick Hanlon (Shelley Hillman), Amber Martin (Jeff Martin), Ryan Valente (Grace Valente), and Brandon Valente (Michelle Valente).
Iris was also a proud and loving great-grandmother to Grace Fay, Kayla Valente, Jackson Martin, Lily Martin, Camden Martin, Ace Valente, Mackenzie Valente, Brooklyn Valente, and Kingsley Valente, each of whom brought her immense joy and pride.
Family was at the heart of everything Iris did. Anyone who knew her knew how much she and Ray treasured the home they shared for 66 years. Together they enjoyed travelling, making lifelong memories, and living a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering companionship. They were truly soulmates.
Iris was a woman of remarkable strength, resilience, and grace. She faced life’s challenges with courage, a warm smile, and a kind word for everyone she met. She had a natural gift for comforting others, always putting people at ease and offering a helping hand whenever it was needed. Her determination and positive spirit remained with her throughout her later years, inspiring all who knew and loved her.
Although our hearts are broken, we are deeply grateful for the long and beautiful life she lived and for the countless memories we were blessed to share.
Mom, thank you for your unconditional love, your wisdom, and your unwavering strength. Your courage has become our own, and your legacy will continue to live on in each of us.
You will be deeply missed and forever loved.
