MCKINNON, Dorothy Irene McKinnon
March 6, 1942 - July 10, 2026
Surrounded by her family Dorothy passed in the early hours of Friday, July 10.
Born on the family farm in Port Dover, Dorothy remained there until she moved to Brantford and started working. Growing up she loved to play pond hockey with her siblings and was in organized hockey until 13 years old.
She lived in many different cities, and worked as an executive assistant at several different jobs. Her main career was with Dr. Fraser Mustard. They travelled all over the world and met many world leaders and notable dignitaries while promoting early childhood development. This was with both the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIAR) and The Founderβs Network.
Dorothy had many interests. She enjoyed Scottish dancing, gardening, reading, playing cards, golfing and puzzles. She loved her precious cat Barley, and many other family pets. What she enjoyed the most was spending time with her grandchildren, whether it was at the cottage or on the many trips she took them on. After retirement she enjoyed wintering in Florida.
Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Daniel and Frances Woolley, her brother Robert Woolley and her brother-in-law Norris Smith.
Dorothy leaves behind her two sons, Barry (Anne Marie), James (Amy), her two grandchildren, Rebecca (Brett), Cameron (Abbey) and her great-granddaughter, Lylah.
She will also be missed by her siblings, Betty Smith, Diane Whitside (Bruce) and Brian Woolley (Laura). Her sister-in-law Jean Woolley and her many nieces and nephews who called her Aunt Dody are also saddened by her loss.
Although her last years were marred by Lewy Body Dementia, her spunky spirit shone through until her last breath.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a dementia charity of your choice.
