Anna Meier (née Schmidt), 83, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025, at her home, The Village of Erin Meadows.
Born on May 10, 1942, in Drenski-Slatinik, former Yugoslavia, Anna was the beloved daughter of the late Anton and Katharina Schmidt. In 1945, her family relocated to Austria before immigrating to Canada in 1955, settling in Windsor, Ontario. Anna was proud of her German heritage and spent many weekends dancing at the Teutonia Club.
Anna loved to travel and courageously embraced the opportunity to live abroad with her family in Nigeria, Ghana, and Egypt. She also found great joy in gardening and generously gave her time through volunteer work at Norfolk General Hospital’s gift shop and at St. Mary’s Parish in Simcoe.
Anna will be missed by her daughters Jennifer (Gavin) and Natalie, and by Jennifer’s stepson Conall, and her many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her brothers Anton (Ottilie) and Johann (Margaret). She was predeceased by her brother Michael and sister Kathe.
A private family service will be held in the fall at Heavenly Rest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Anna’s name may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
