SMITH, Michael Thomas – It is with profound sadness we announce his sudden peaceful passing at the Pembroke Regional Hospital on Monday, September 7th, 2026 in his 79th year.  Michael Smith of Pembroke, beloved husband of Rosella Alexia Smith (nee Digout) and predeceased by his parents Thomas and Rose Smith. Loving father of Darlene (John) Peters, Karen Smith (Jen Currin) and Helen Smith.  Caring grandfather of Haley, Sarah and Riane.  Dear brother of Diane (the late Larry) Aquino, Vincent (Barbara) Smith, Bruce (Caroline) Smith and Mary Ellen (Bill) McPherson. Sadly missed by mother-in-law Lucy Digout (nee Locke).

He faced his final days with his characteristic strength, dignity, kindness, care, and good humour. Mike showed his care through acts of service and will be mourned by his family and his community. Many believe their loved one is great, but even amongst the greats we know he was the best of the best and he will be missed.

Michael retired from Atomic Energy of Canada and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1531 and served on the board of directors for St. Joseph Non Profit (Pembroke) Corp.  Michael was a very avid golfer in his retirement years and participated with several groups.
