MURRAY , Scott Murray
June 6, 1965 - August 28, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Scott Murray, who left us peacefully on Thursday, August 28, 2025, just months after celebrating his 60th birthday.
In death, Scott is reunited with his beloved parents, Iris and Justin Murray, who are surely welcoming him with open arms, a deck of cards, and a cribbage board. A devoted Montreal Canadiens fan, Scott leaves behind his biggest supporters: siblings Mike Murray, Kim Brumm, and Kelly Sam (with Jon Sam), as well as his cherished nieces and nephew: Samantha Murray, Danielle Sam, and Matthew Sam.
First Period
Scott’s life began with a challenge. Born with Sturge-Weber syndrome, he endured near-constant seizures and, before his first birthday, became one of the first infants to undergo surgery to remove the left lobe of his brain. Despite spending many early days in the “penalty box” at SickKids Hospital in Toronto, Scott defied the odds and built a foundation of resilience and connection with those who cared for him.
Second Period
Scott grew into a kind, fun-loving young man. Friends fondly recall his powerful slapshot in road hockey, his bowling strikes, and his signature left-handed hook shot in basketball. His physical challenges never defined him—his warmth, loyalty, and love for family and friends shone through. Scott’s positivity was infectious, and his spirit inspired all who knew him.
Third Period
In later years, Scott deepened his connections through reminiscence and technology. He found joy in reconnecting with old friends via Facebook in his daily morning greetings. He also reconnected with extended family members as he recounted details of the many family reunions he loved so much. He cherished visits from his high school friends, especially the amazing ladies he called “Scott’s Angels”. He developed meaningful relationships everywhere he went from the bowling alley to the hockey stands to his building and online.
Overtime
As Scott passes into overtime, we know he’ll be watching over us from the big screen in the sky. In the theme of Scott’s love for cards—though he may not have been dealt the best hand, he played it like a pro.
We will celebrate Scott’s life on Saturday, September 6, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home in Bowmanville. In honor of Scott’s love for the Habs, guests are encouraged to wear Montreal Canadiens-themed attire—jerseys, t-shirts, hats, pins, or anything you have or can borrow. Don’t worry—we’ll have a tickle trunk full of Canadiens gear for anyone in need. You may also want to polish up on your cribbage skills as there will be boards and cards available to those who want to play or learn!
Let’s celebrate his life Scott-style!
In lieu of flowers, Scott’s wish was for donations to be made to SickKids Hospital, the place that gave him a fighting chance.
