A cherished son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, friend, and neighbour, Myles’ sudden death has left us shocked and devastated.
In his 18 years, Myles lived a life of achievement, adventure, and purpose. His love of nature, as well as his passion for math and science, recently led him to pursue an undergraduate engineering degree at the University of British Columbia – Okanagan (UBCO).
A gifted and dedicated musician, Myles achieved his Level 8 Certification through the Royal Conservatory of Music in classical piano and was also an accomplished trumpet player. At Port Perry High School he helped lead the music council and contributed as a multi-band performer. A proud member of Durham Jazz, he travelled with the ensemble to BC to perform at schools, ski Grouse Mountain and deepen his love for the province. At UBCO, he embraced his third instrument, the guitar.
Myles was an avid outdoorsman. He treasured his family cottage – his favourite place to socialize, swim, sail, and water-ski. He chose to spend his summers at camp, where he eagerly embarked on long canoe trips through Algonquin Park and the Temagami region. A defining moment of his camp experience was a trip to BC, where he embraced rock climbing, sea kayaking, mountain biking and a plunge in a glacial lake. Myles found tranquility and beauty across our diverse Canadian landscape.
Whether guarding and teaching at Uxbridge Pool or instructing on the slopes at Brimacombe Ski Resort, his talents and leadership truly made our community a safer place.
With an enthusiasm for history, Myles was curious about our world. He enjoyed travelling to the United States, Austria, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and most of all, to Greece.
Myles was incredibly happy during his short time at UBCO and he had grand plans for his future. He cherished the deep camaraderie of his new circle of friends, the kind and talented engineer students he met through Jumpstart week. Thank you for your friendship and for valuing Myles as much as he valued you. May your studies continue to fulfill you and take you to great places.
Myles, you left us far too early. You were an exceptional citizen and a man of honour. In your desire to achieve greatness, you never imagined that even you had limits. We will always remember your handsome smile, your kind demeanour, your sense of humour, your dedication to your studies, and your beautiful music.
