Passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026, at the age of 90, holding the hand of his beloved wife of more than 66 years, Mary Newland. Son of the late Stanley and Marjorie Newland, Dave is predeceased by his brother Howard and sister-in-law Grace, and survived by his brother Harry Cornish (Sue). He was the proud father of Linda Stather (John) and Barbara Whitehead, loving grandfather to Katlyn (Bryon), Candice, Sarah (Myron), Lindsay, Mitchell (Ashton), and Amy (Kyle), and cherished great-grandfather of six. Despite spending his life in the Scarborough area, Dave chose to relocate to the beautiful Prince Edward County so he could spend his retirement discovering new joys in his life. With his devoted wife by his side, he joined the Bay of Quinte Yacht Club and a local gardening club to explore his new interests. Together, they created a garden to be jealous of (including fruits and vegetables that were frequently ransacked by their grandchildren), and made many memories aboard their newly acquired sailboat (a smaller version of which was purchased for the grandkids to practice their sailing school lessons on the lake at the family cottage). He was forever collecting tools and other materials to support his love of creating and building things with his own two hands, even if that meant his patient wife’s to-do list never seemed to get completed. A kind and generous man, Dave was always willing to lend a hand to those in need, whether that someone was a family member or friend, or one the countless people he helped during his long stint as a Community Care driver. To know Dave was to love him, for his quiet strength, heartfelt sincerity, and stubborn determination was easy to see in everything he did. While he will be deeply missed by all those who loved him, they take comfort in knowing he is at peace.
