It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gerald (Gerry) Wayne Norman, who left us suddenly on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at the age of 73. Gerry was a loving husband and dad, whose kindness and laughter left a mark on all who knew him. Gerry is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Barb, and his daughter, Carrie (Joe), to whom he was the best Daddy in the world. He was a proud Grandpa who was cherished by his grandchildren, Alex (Lil A) and Matthew (Chew). Gerry was born in Toronto, Ontario on June 14, 1952, to Harold Frances (predeceased) and Dorothy June (predeceased). He was the younger brother of sister Sharron. He is also lovingly remembered by his nephews Bret and Shawn (predeceased), and his brothers-in-law Barry (Sally), Brian (Kim, predeceased), Bradley (predeceased), sisters-in-law Brenda (predeceased), Beverley (Bert, predeceased), Beth (Robert), and many nieces, nephews and extended family. He will also be missed by his cherished golden retriever Gidget, and amazon parrot Boo. Gerry was a talented professional drummer and a member of many rock and blues bands. His most recent passion was carefully polishing and restoring a 1937 Ford Deluxe Five-Window Coupe to what he called his “Dreamweaver”. He proudly cruised the neighbourhood at any opportunity! Gerry had many hobbies with strong artistic ability. Gardening, assembling model cars, and designing model train sets, just to name a few. His meticulous attention to detail is seen in all of his many projects around the house and at the cottage. Many good times were had at the family cottage in Haliburton where he enjoyed snowmobiling, cruising in the Beach Buggy (golf cart), and just enjoying the great outdoors. Gerry was a very special person, kind, friendly, very funny, and loved by everyone. The room lit up with his presence. Gerry’s warmth, love for life, and ability to bring joy to those around him will never be forgotten. He will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to know him. Most of all, Gerry loved spending time with his family, who will miss him so much. Our dear husband, father, father-in-law, grandpa will be forever in our hearts.
According to his wishes, Gerry has been cremated. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at 12:00pm at the Centennial Building (Regal Room) (416 Centre Street South, Whitby, ON L1N 4W2) in Whitby, Ontario. Reception to follow. A live stream will be available for those unable to be in attendance in person.
