Norman Keith McCready Obituary

Norman “Norm” Keith McCready died on September 4, 2026, at the age of 92. A devoted man of faith, he will be remembered with love by his family, church community, and many friends.

Born in Emo, Ontario, on October 30, 1933, Norman was the youngest of seven children born to Robert and Grace McCready. His siblings were Bill, Kathleen, Ruth, Don, Jean, and Agnes. The family moved to Sarnia when Norman was about five and began attending Temple Baptist Church, where his lifelong Christian faith and connection to his church community grew.

Norman was predeceased in 2015 by his beloved wife, Ruth McCready (née Phibbs), following 62 years of marriage. They raised four children: Steve (Lorraine), Crystal (the late Randy), Paul (Wendy), and Sandy (Rick). Norman was a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren and four grandchildren-in-law, and a loving great-grandfather to thirteen.

Family remained central to Norman’s life. He followed the accomplishments and challenges of every generation, offered encouragement, and faithfully prayed for each family member every day.

After their children left Sarnia, Norman and Ruth moved to Cambridge to be closer to their growing family. Both volunteered at Heritage College and Seminary and became part of the Forward Baptist Church community. After Ruth’s death, Norman and his daughter Crystal returned to Sarnia in 2016 and reconnected with Temple Baptist Church.

Norman’s warm smile, quick wit, joyful personality, and sincere care for people made a lasting impression. His faith shaped his service to his family, churches, friends, and community throughout his life.

Family and friends will be received at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Friday, September 11, 2026, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held there on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception at the Smith Family Centre.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Cheques are accepted only at the funeral home.
