OLMSTEAD, Eric Olmstead

Passed away on February 23, 2026, at the age of 86.

Born in Bancroft, Ontario, Eric spent most of his life in Oshawa, where he built both his career and his community. He worked for General Motors for 35 years, showing the dedication and steady work ethic that defined much of his life.

Eric was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marilyn Olmstead (December 28, 2023), and by his son, Rick Olmstead (February 21, 2025).

He is lovingly remembered by his son Darryl Olmstead and daughter-in-law Heather Olmstead, as well as his daughter-in-law Patricia Olmstead. Heather and Patricia both held deep respect for Eric as a patriarch of the family and valued his guidance, humor, support, and presence.

He will be deeply missed by his five grandchildren: Robert Olmstead; Cassandra Olmstead (Michael); Jessica Mendonca (Bradley); Dustin Olmstead (Kristie); and Courtney Desjardins (Marc). He was also a proud great-grandfather to Hunter Olmstead and Lily Tan.

Through his marriage to Marilyn, Eric was also a devoted stepfather to Elizabeth (Daniel) and Derek (Laurie), and a caring grandfather to Joe, Kaelan, and Joshua. He embraced his extended family as his own and valued the role he played in their lives.

Eric loved traveling in his Winnebago, spending time boating, and exploring new places. An active member of his church and the Lions Club, he valued community and connection. Known for his humor and charisma, he had a natural ability to bring people together and leave them smiling.

His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and in the many lives he touched over his 86 years.

His family will gather in warmer weather to celebrate his life and spread his ashes.
