O’NEIL, Gerald William O’Neil

April 30, 1953 - July 31, 2026
O’NEIL, Gerald William O’Neil

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gerald William O’Neil, who passed away peacefully at 6:45 a.m. on Friday, July 31, 2026, at Bluewater Health in Sarnia, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family. Gerry is now reunited with the love of his life, Cynthia O’Neil, and with his beloved parents, Eileen O’Neil and Gerald O’Neil, who predeceased him. Born on April 30, 1953, Gerry was raised in Corunna, Ontario, a community that always held a special place in his heart. He dedicated 41 years of his life to Imperial Oil in Sarnia, where he built a career marked by hard work, dedication, and integrity before retiring in 2017. Throughout his life, he enjoyed spending time on the water, had a deep appreciation for classic cars, and could often be found sharing stories about his beautiful wife, Cynthia, whose memory he cherished every day. He leaves behind a family who loved him beyond measure, including his three children: Natalie Hunt (Craig), Jennifer MacDougall (Carrigan), and Gerry (Jake) O’Neil (Robyn). He was an incredibly proud grandfather to his six cherished grandchildren: Braeden, Abbey, Brooklyn, Tyler, Ryker, and Grayson. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and nothing brought him greater joy than watching them grow, celebrating their accomplishments, and creating memories they will carry with them forever. Gerry is also lovingly remembered by his sister, Peggy Baleka-Hobbs (John), his niece, Nicole Viventi (Bill), as well as the McCormick’s, their extended families, and many dear friends who will miss him greatly. The loss of Gerry has left an immeasurable void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He was a devoted father, a proud grandfather, and a kind, generous man whose strength, wisdom, and unwavering love for his family defined his life. His love for his children and grandchildren was unconditional and immeasurableβ€”far greater than words could ever express. Although our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that his love, guidance, and countless memories will remain with us always. We also find peace in knowing that Gerry is once again reunited with his beloved wife, Cynthia, whom he missed so deeply every day for the past nine years. Together again, they are no longer separated, and for that we are truly grateful. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered by all whose lives he touched. Cremation has taken place. Family and friends will be received at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Friday, August 7, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Lakeview Cemetery, 1016 Colborne Road, Sarnia, on Monday, August 17, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the charity of your choice (cheques only at the funeral home please).
