OVINGTON, John Edward Ovington

In Loving Memory of John E. Ovington
With profound sadness and deep gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of our Dad and Grandpa and companion,John Ovington, a proud veteran of the United States Seabees, who left us on Monday September 1, 2025 at the age of 79. Dad passed at the General and Marine Hospital in Collingwood.

Dad was many things: a devoted Dad, the world’s best Grandpa, a proud American/ Canadian, and the kind of man who always put others before himself. He served his country with honor and lived his life with heart—kind, fun-loving, and deeply selfless to the end.

His military service was a point of quiet pride, but it was in his roles as Dad and Grandpa where he truly shined. Whether he was cheering from the sidelines or sharing stories that made everyone laugh, he made life better just by being there.

Grandpa never missed a birthday, a football game, graduation or a chance to say, “I love you.” He had a smile that filled the room, a heart bigger than words, and a gift for making everyone feel safe and seen.
He gave his time freely, his wisdom gently, and his love without condition. His life was a masterclass in what it means to be caring, fun, and selfless—values he passed down to all of us. Dad enjoyed his time in Arizona, fishing, bowling and travelling. Motorcycle rides with Judy. Most of all Dad enjoyed his time with his family and grandchildren.

John is the loving Dad of Jeanine(Todd Bain),and William Ovington. Cherished Grandpa of Ashton Bain and Blake, Haylee and Drake Ovington. Dear companion of Judy Ford. Who will all carry his love and example with them always. Predeceased by his wife Lori (nee Goldhorn) and siblings Genevieve Tarnow and Richard and Donald Ovington. He will also be missed by his nieces and nephews and his many friends.

No formal services at this time.

We will miss his hugs, his jokes, his stories—but most of all, we will miss him. Rest easy, Dad. You served, you loved, and you mattered. Always.
