Passed away unexpectedly in Toronto, Ontario, on August 18, 2025, at the age of 75. He was born in Toronto on October 20, 1949, the beloved son of the late Mary Isabelle (Marybelle) Peddle (Horsburgh).
Munden was a loving brother to Russell (Jan) and the late Mary Ellen (Jean). He will also be sincerely missed by his half-siblings Paul, Garry and Rosemary.
In childhood, Munden loved playing “kick the can”, cowboys, building forts, climbing trees and horseback riding. As a Boy Scout, he treasured canoe trips through Algonquin Park. During his teenage years, he spent his summers working on a farm—experiences that shaped his character and gave him a deeper understanding of both the world and himself.
A graduate of the University of Waterloo, Munden built a career doing what he loved most—working with computers. He spent many fulfilling years at the Bank of Montreal and later enjoyed a pre-retirement chapter at Mrs. Bridges British Bakery.
Munden lived with boundless curiosity and enthusiasm. A proud Freemason, he found fellowship, purpose, and tradition within the brotherhood. He was a historical reenactor who delighted in bringing the past to life and an avid reader with a lifelong love of history, fantasy, and science fiction. Proud of his heritage, he admired all things British and held a special fondness for Scottish culture and traditions—Highland Games, tartans, sticky toffee pudding, and pot pies among them.
Friendly, approachable, and always in good humour, Munden loved to share stories, laughter, and wisdom. He connected with people in his own way, often “inMUNdating” their inboxes with comics, jokes, and thoughtful reflections that brightened their days. His knowledge of world history was extensive, his expertise in family history admirable, and his storytelling masterful.
Munden’s heart was always with his family—he cherished every moment spent together. Though his father’s presence brought hardship that left lasting ripples, one of his proudest achievements was helping his mother heal from the pain of her past. He especially cherished the moment when, after years of distance, she returned his embrace with a tight, loving hug—a memory he carried as one of the deepest testaments to his life’s impact.
Munden loved his children fiercely. His family was the centre of his world, and his greatest joy was knowing his dream of being a father to six children had come true. He took pride in being a father to Lindsay (Gied), Kari (Jeff), Lorne, Stephanie (Gram), Branden and Joshua—and an adoring Grandpa to Sam, Oscar and Faera. Though his introversion often campaigned against nurturing these connections, his children always felt his steady, anchoring love.
Munden’s life is a reminder of the simple beauty of being with those you hold dear. He will be remembered for his deep love of family, his kindness and generosity, his humour, and his passion for history and technology. His legacy will live on in the many lives he touched.
