
Peter William Sparling of Langley, British Columbia, passed away on August 29, 2026, at the age of 85.
Born on July 11, 1941, in New Westminster, British Columbia, Peter was the son of James Frederick Sparling and Isabella Baird Sparling.
Peter was an avid runner and enjoyed reading true-crime and sports books. His travels took him to destinations including Cuba, China, South America, New Zealand, and Australia. Among his running achievements, he qualified for the New York Marathon and completed a half-marathon with his 15-year-old granddaughter.
He was also known for his patience and for spending time doing puzzles and teaching his grandchildren to play Chinese checkers.
Peter is survived by his spouse, Marilyn Sparling; children Tammy and Christopher Larsen; grandchildren Corey, Christie, Hailey, Shardai, and Nyla; great-grandchildren Madelyn, Eric, Wesley, Logan, and Parker; and his sister, Mary Cramer of Healy, Kansas. He remembered his late siblings, David Sparling and Ruth Speaker, with love.
The family thanked the staff and caregivers at Langley Memorial Hospital for their exceptional care. In keeping with Peter’s wishes, no service will be held.
