PETRALITO, Saverio Petralito
January 30, 1936 - March 6, 2026
It is with profound sadness and love that the family announces the passing of Saverio “Sam” Petralito on March 6, 2026, at the age of 90.
Born in Pachino, Sicily, Italy, on January 30, 1936, Saverio showed courage and determination from a young age. He left his homeland to seek opportunities in Venezuela and Colombia, before ultimately settling in Toronto, Canada, where his brother Giovanni and sisters Paulina and Giovanna had already made a home. Toronto became the place where he built his life, raised his family, and nurtured lifelong friendships.
In 1962, Saverio married the love of his life, Giuseppina. Their story began with a single meeting in Italy, where he fell instantly in love and asked for her hand in marriage. Together, they built a life full of love, devotion, and unwavering commitment to family. Though Giuseppina predeceased him in 2014, Saverio treasured every moment of the life they shared and carried her love with him always.
Saverio and Giuseppina raised three children in Toronto: Corrado (Franca), Lidia (Joe), and Peter (Anna). He was a devoted husband and father, always placing family at the center of his life. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Kristina, Marco, Daniel, Luca, Alessandro, and Veronica. Saverio cherished his weekly phone calls with his grandchildren, family dinners, and every moment spent together. Family gatherings with his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews were especially dear to him—sharing meals, telling stories, and creating memories that brought him immeasurable joy that remained the heartbeat of his life.
Known to friends and family as “Sam,” he was also remembered for his passion for gardening and his homemade wine, both of which he shared generously with all who visited. His backyard, crowned by his beloved cherry tree, was a place of laughter, togetherness, and community—where everyone was welcome to pick fresh cherries straight from the branches.
Faith guided Saverio throughout his life. Deeply devoted to Jehovah, he treasured the bonds with his congregation, whose love and friendship extended warmly to his entire family.
Saverio will be remembered for his strength, kindness, generosity, laughter, and enduring love for his family and friends. His journey across continents, the home he built, and the love he shared leave a lasting legacy of courage, devotion, and joy.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his beloved children, grandchildren, extended family, cherished congregation, and all whose lives he touched.
