Lodilia Poletti

It is with deeply saddened hearts that the family of Lodilia Poletti announce her peaceful passing on Tuesday, March 24th, 2026 at the age of 101 at her home in Marshall Gowland Manor in Sarnia. Lodilia was born in Italy on December 09, 1924. Lodilia is survived by her children: Deni Poletti, Gina (Jim) Belrose, Endri Poletti (Joyce Nolan). She was Nonni to Luke Belrose (Kirsten), Amanda Bouma (Derek), Romy and Nina Poletti, Gibreel and Ilyas Poletti; and Bisnonna to Katie and Scarlett Bouma, and Frank Belrose. Lodilia came to Canada in 1958 with her husband Pietro, son Endri and all their possessions, neatly packed in one trunk. They made their voyage across the Atlantic aboard the SS Queen Federica, arrived in Halifax and made their way to Sarnia. Lodilia lived for family and friends. She always filled her home with love, food, “sweet-a-stuff” and games, and spent her time knitting Nonni blankets for everyone. If you were in her presence, you felt her love and truly experienced la Dolce Vita. Lodilia also devoted much of her time to the Catholic community of St. Peter’s Church, including visiting the sick at local hospitals. Family and friends will be received at the McKenzie Blundy Chapel (Smith Funeral Home), 431 Christina St. N., Sarnia on Monday, March 30th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. with prayers being offered at 8:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 293 Stuart Street, Sarnia, on Tuesday, March 31st, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery, Michigan Ave, Sarnia. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Canadian Red Cross (cheques only at the funeral home please).
