
Robert “Bob” Joseph Schumacher passed away unexpectedly at Chartwell Bowmanville Creek on October 5, 2026, at the age of 81. Born in Walkerton, Ontario, on January 2, 1945, he was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Pauline (née Oberle), and by his parents, Joseph and Dorothy (née Schnurr).
Bob is remembered by his children Carrie Richardson (Chris), Craig (Jennifer), and Caryn Sabine (Craig); his grandchildren Emma, Lila, Danika, Zachary, Reid, and Miller; his siblings JoAnne Grubb (Marvin), Cathy Vanderlee, Garry (Judy), and Paul (Nancy); and his extended family and friends.
He served for more than 30 years as a police officer, beginning with the Bowmanville Police Force in 1970 and continuing with Durham Regional Police Service. After retiring in 1998, he worked with Laidlaw as a school-bus driver and trainer. He was an active member of St. Joseph Parish in Bowmanville and the Knights of Columbus.
Visitation will take place at Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home in Bowmanville on October 16, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Bowmanville on October 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a luncheon. A private family interment will take place at Bowmanville Cemetery and Columbarium. Memorial donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation Canada, Diabetes Canada, or MS Canada.
