ROBERTS, Roycroft Harcourt Roberts
July 17, 1939 - July 24, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected and peaceful passing of Roycroft Harcourt Roberts, affectionately known to family and friends as “The Crofter,” on Friday, July 24, 2026, at the age of 87.
Born on July 17, 1939, in Georgetown, Guyana, Roy’s life began as a miracle. As a young child, he overcame a serious medical condition that many believed he would not survive. His strength, determination, and quiet resilience would become defining characteristics throughout his remarkable life.
Music was one of Roy’s greatest passions and gifts. A gifted Hammond organist, he served as the organist at one of the largest churches in Georgetown, where his music touched countless lives. He was also an accomplished jazz musician whose love of the Hammond organ earned him affectionate comparisons to the legendary Jimmy Smith. Whether playing in church or performing jazz, Roy’s talent brought joy and inspiration to everyone who listened.
Roy also had a lifelong passion for sports and friendly competition. He was an accomplished badminton champion and coach, enjoyed playing tennis, and was an excellent pool player. His competitive spirit was always matched by his sportsmanship and willingness to encourage others.
Professionally, Roy built a successful career with the Ontario Ministry of Transportation and Communications, where he worked in the Data Centre and rose to the position of Manager. He took great pride in his work and in mentoring those around him. One of his proudest moments was helping his son begin his own career with the Ministry. He also worked part-time at Sears.
Even after retirement, Roy remained active, working at an electronics retailer, and later at the LCBO, enjoying the opportunity to stay engaged with people and continue contributing to his community.
To his family, however, Roy was so much more than his career. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a proud grandfather, a trusted mentor, and the family’s “Mr. Fix-It.” If something around the house needed repairing, Roy could usually find a solution. He loved spending time in his garage, tinkering on projects, relaxing, and enjoying life’s simple pleasures.
Above all else, Roy was a great husband, amazing father, awesome grandpa and family man. He led by example through hard work, humility, kindness, integrity, and unwavering love. His quiet strength, gentle wisdom, and steady presence shaped the lives of those who knew him and loved him.
Roy leaves behind his beloved wife, Gloria Evadne Ismay Roberts, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and partnership. He will be forever loved and deeply missed by his son, Marc βFunkβ Roberts, his daughter-in-law, Angela Roberts, and his cherished grandson, Cassian Roberts, who was his best friend and brought him immeasurable joy and pride.
Roy was the beloved son of the late Charles Edgar Roberts and Iris Roberts. He was predeceased by his brother, Karl Roberts, and his sisters, Pauline Robertson and Gem Roberts. He will be lovingly remembered by his extended family, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends whose lives he touched over the years.
A Celebration of Roy’s Life will be held at a later date, with details to be shared with family and friends.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude for the love, prayers, support, and kindness shown during this difficult time.
Forever loved. Forever remembered. Forever in our hearts.
Roy believed in helping others whenever he could.
