RUMFORD, Gordon Bruce Rumford

May 26, 1942 - February 26, 2026
RUMFORD, Gordon Bruce Rumford

Passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Sunset Manor in Collingwood.

He will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Susan, and by his children: Grant (Miriam), Paul (Meredith), Stephanie (Joseph), Jacqueline (Andrew), and Cameron (Olesia). Gordon was a proud and cherished grandfather to Michelle (Mike), Madison (Andrew), Samantha (Michael), Riley, Jacob, Kaitlyn, Colton, Charlotte, David, Heidi, Grant, Emmy, and Zadie, and a delighted great-grandfather to Lachlan.

Born in Toronto to George and Margaret Rumford, Gordon grew up with a strong sense of family and community. He is survived by his sister, Gloria (the late Carl Crowder), and was predeceased by his brother, Ernest. He will also be fondly remembered by Marie (the late Ross Souch).

Gordon was a committed Christian who faithfully lived out his beliefs in every area of his life. He began his ministry as an ordained Baptist pastor and later served as a commended worker with the Brethren Assemblies. Over the years, he ministered as a hospital chaplain, was actively involved in Prison Ministry, and served as a pastoral visitor in homes and hospices. He taught Hermeneutics at Kawartha Lakes Bible College, led youth retreats, conducted Helping the Hurting seminars, and hosted Bible studies both in his home and in the homes of others.

For nearly 30 years, Gordon wrote daily devotions through his charitable ministry, Rumford Ministries, offering encouragement and biblical insight to countless readers. He was also the author of Truth Tried and Triumphant.

Above all, Gordon was a loving and supportive husband, a devoted father, and a proud grandfather. He was deeply loved by many — in family, in the congregations where he preached, in the neighbourhoods where he lived, and by the staff and residents of the long-term care home where he resided during his final two years. He saw every place he found himself as an opportunity for ministry and every person as someone to care for.

“Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord.”
Matthew 25:23
