RUSSELL, Charles Anthony Russell
May 20, 1932 - February 24, 2026
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Charles Anthony “Tony” Russell on February 24, 2026, at the age of 93.
Tony was born on May 20, 1932, in London, England. Upon the onset of the Second World War, he was evacuated to Paignton, Devon — an experience that forged his resilience. In the years that followed, he apprenticed as an electrician and completed his military service in the Royal Corps of Signals.
In 1957, he immigrated to Canada with his brothers, John and Terry, beginning a new chapter filled with determination and hope. He met Joyce Metheral, “the girl for him,” on a blind date while working in Fort William, Ontario. Over the next 65 years, they built a life defined by love, integrity, and unwavering commitment to family.
Tony was a skilled tradesman who took great pride in doing things properly. He dedicated 34 years of service to Bell Canada in Ontario before retiring in 1991. He and Joyce moved to Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island, where they spent 29 cherished years enjoying the beauty of coastal life, treasured friendships, and a well-earned, relaxed pace. In 2020, they returned to Uxbridge, Ontario, to be closer to family.
He was a true English gentleman — steady, kind, and quietly dependable. He had an ear for music and a habit of dancing. He enjoyed sailing, golfing, travel, and time at the cottage. A natural “Mr. Fix-It,” there was little he could not repair, and he was always ready to lend a hand or offer practical wisdom. Above all, he loved Joyce deeply. She was the centre of his world and his greatest joy.
He was predeceased by his parents, Dell and Alfred Russell; his brother, John (Sheila); his sister-in-law, Isobel (Terry); and his sister-in-law, Gwen Jessiman (Gary). He is survived by his devoted wife, Joyce; his brother, Terry; his son, Thane (Kerri); his daughter, Lisa; his grandchildren, Paige (Brandon) Papas, Mackenzie (Jeff) Lobraico, Matthew, and Madison (Carlo) Rosati; his great-grandchildren, Harper, Nora, Emmy, Lenna, and Jackson; his brother-in-law, Gary Jessiman; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families.
A celebration of his life will be held at Low & Low Funeral Home, 23 Main Street South, Uxbridge on Sunday April 26, 2026 from 1:00 – 4:00 PM, with memories to be shared at 2:00 PM. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Community Care Durham-Uxbridge or the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated. Friends are invited to share memories, express condolences or make donations by visiting www.lowandlow.ca.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the nurses, staff, and the entire Bloomington Cove community for their compassionate care and support.
Tony will be deeply missed and ever remembered.
“His life was gentle, and the elements
So mix’d in him that Nature might stand up
And say to all the world, ‘This was a man.’”
— William Shakespeare, Julius Caesar
