Sardarni Jasbir Kaur Sanghera passed away on August 25, 2026, following a long and difficult battle with cancer.
Born on February 3, 1949, in the village of Dhada Kalan, Punjab, India, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Gurbachan S. Basran and the late Ajit Kaur Basran. She grew up with four sisters and two brothers, completed her education, and became a school teacher in Punjab.
On March 31, 1974, she married Sardar Sucha Singh Sanghera of Village Pharwala. She is survived by her husband and their three children, Kamaljit Singh, Rupinder Kaur, and Jasmit Singh, together with their spouses. She is also remembered by five grandchildren and by many relatives and friends.
Jasbir had a lifelong love of farming and nature. After immigrating to Canada in 1996, she continued to pursue those interests. The family moved to Kelowna in 2005 to live on a farm, where she took great pleasure in helping care for plants and crops. She was proud to see her children follow in her footsteps and enjoyed watching them grow. Health, fitness, and an active daily life were also important to her.
Funeral Service
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. PDT on September 5, 2026, at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, British Columbia. A livestream will be available through the funeral home’s obituary page at the time of the service, with a recording expected three to five days later.
Path da Bhog will follow at 3:00 p.m. on September 5, 2026, at Okanagan Sikh Temple, 1111 Rutland Road North, Kelowna, British Columbia.
