SCHAFER, Dolores Doreen Schafer

Shortly after celebrating her 91st birthday, Dolores Doreen Schafer passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on March 30, 2026, at Kelowna General Hospital in Palliative Care, in Kelowna, BC.

Dolores’ story began on March 25, 1935, in Medicine Hat, AB. It was also there that she met the love of her life, Philip, whom she married, April 24, 1954, and together they built a life full of warmth, laughter, and an open door that was never truly closed.

She was, above all else, a homemaker in the truest sense. Dolores took pride in her home and found her greatest joy in filling it with the people she loved – and her circle of love was wide.

Dolores is lovingly remembered by her children Barry (Aaron), Robin, Charlene, and Karen (Ken); her sister Elizabeth “Betty”; and of course, her cat Babs and grand-cats Cleo and Cash. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Philip; her brother Harvey; and her parents, Emilie and Jacob Tarnasky.

Donations in Dolores’ memory may be made to the BC SPCA or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at 10:00 AM (PT), at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC. If you are unable to attend in person, please join the family online by Livestream at the time of the service; a recording will be made available to view within 3-5 days.

A reception will follow the service at Springfield Funeral Home Family Centre.

The graveside interment will take place following the reception at 1:00 PM, at Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery, 1991 Bernard Ave, Kelowna, BC.
