James Francis Schwan

July 10, 1945 – June 12, 2025

Jim passed away peacefully at Uxbridge Cottage Hospital after a courageous battle with Prostate cancer, with his loving wife Donna at his side. Jim was born & raised in Owen Sound Ontario & was the second youngest of seven children. He leaves behind his two sons, David & Mark, cherished granddaughter Ella, sister Helen (Jack) & brother Michael (Jacqueline) as well as numerous nieces & nephews.

Jim attended St. Mary’s Elementary school, high school @ Sacred Heart in London, ON & Owen Sound CVI. He was a graduate of Wilfred Laurier University & York University. Jim taught Geography, Physical & Health Education, Guidance/Student Services for a very fulfilling 34 years. He taught at Milverton, Uxbridge, & Brock high schools. During that time Jim successfully coached several LOSSA, COSSA championships & OFSSA qualifying teams in basketball, track sprint & relays. Jim maintained contact with many of his former students & athletes, appreciating the zest in life they provided him.

In retirement he started the Port-O-Sport Coaches Board business, followed by Port-O-Sport Golf Course Signage business, which he had for 22 years

A lifelong golfer, Jim enjoyed many years playing & being involved at Cedarhurst GC in Beaverton. In 2023 Jim & Donna received a Lifetime Honorary Membership from Cedarhurst GC, the thrill of a lifetime.

Jim loved life with his outgoing, fun-loving personality & leaves many family & friends with memories of good times & especially the family reunions @ Sauble Beach

In retirement Jim & Donna enjoyed winter vacations in Florida, Mexico & life at Edengrove, a condominium complex in Beaverton, ON

In accordance with his wishes there will be no formal service as he felt that he celebrated life when he was with us. Jim lived by this motto “Dum Vivimus, Vivamus” (An encouragement to embrace life)

The family would like to thank Dr. D Rowe, Dr. J DiCostanzo, & Dr. M Trinkaus for their exemplary care & the nurses at Uxbridge Cottage Hospital, & Julius & Mary from Para Med for their compassion
