SIMPSON, Elsa Nita Simpson

It is with deep love and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elsa Nita Simpson (née Hunte), 81, of Pickering, Ontario, who passed away peacefully on July 3, 2025, after a brief illness.
Elsa was born on August 6, 1943, in Shorey Village, Barbados, to Felicia and Joseph Hunte. She spent her early years in Barbados before courageously immigrating to Canada to build a brighter future for herself and her family. In both her beloved Barbados and her adopted home of Canada, Elsa nurtured her lifelong passions for reading, physical fitness, gardening, and, above all, acts of kindness that touched everyone who knew her.
Elsa built a long career at Manufacturers Life, where she was admired for her dedication, warmth, and the friendships she formed along the way. Even after retirement, she loved attending the annual retirees’ dinners, cherishing the lasting bonds she had built over the years.
Elsa found true joy in life’s simple pleasures — tending her flowers, staying active with her pickleball group, and always lending a helping hand to anyone in need. Her greatest happiness, however, was found in time spent with her family. Whether cooking a big meal, sharing quiet moments over coffee, or telling stories that filled the room with laughter, Elsa made every moment special and meaningful.
Elsa was previously married to Anthony Simpson, with whom she had her loving daughters, Jan and Andrea Simpson. She is survived by them and by her grandson, Marcus Wright. Elsa is also lovingly remembered by her dear siblings Vincent Hunte, Gwendolyn Licorish (née Hunte), Cardinal Hunte, and Ivan Hunte; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends whose lives were brighter because of her love and generosity. She was predeceased by her parents and her beloved brothers Carl, Rudolph, Curtis, and Prince.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Elsa’s remarkable life with a funeral service on August 9, 2025, at 1 p.m. at St. Paul’s on the Hill Anglican Church, www.stpaulsonthehill.com . Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Elsa’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, www.cancer.ca .
Elsa’s kind spirit, warm laughter, and selfless love will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
