It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Craig Chalmers Smith on May 19th, 2025, at Scarborough General Hospital, at the age of 72. Craig passed away, peacefully in his sleep, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, creativity, and love.
Born in Toronto, Ontario, on June 7th, 1952, Craig was a devoted father to Brenna Tracy (John) and Corbett Smith (Cavell), and a proud grandfather to Nolan, Hannah, Rachel, Liam, and Aiden. He is survived by his beloved sister Karen Brunton and his many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. He is predeceased by his sister Cheryl Hedges.
Craig’s passions were as varied as they were meaningful. He found peace and joy in nature, and often spoke about his times hiking, camping, and canoeing in Algonquin Provincial Park. His creativity shone through in his love for The Group of Seven artwork, sketching and his love for cooking, especially when it came to barbecuing and enjoying a homemade pie. A lover of history and sports—especially football—he enjoyed sharing his knowledge and passion with those around him.
Above all, Craig will be remembered for his warmth, thoughtfulness, and generous spirit. He had a rare gift for making others feel valued and cared for, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in Craig’s memory may be made to Michael Garron Hospital or to a charity of your choice.
