SMITH, Edna May Smith

SMITH, Edna May Smith

It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our dear mother; Edna Smith on Sunday November 16, 2025.  She went to be with her Lord and Savior at the age of 98 years.  Reunited in heaven with her beloved husband of 70 years; Fred A. Smith whom she missed every day.

Born August 11, 1927 to Malcolm and Edna Brown in Scarborough, Ontario.  Her early childhood was spent in the Rosebank, Highland Creek area.  At the early age of 4 or 5 she pushed her dolly’s carriage filled with fruits and vegetables to sell to cottagers.  Her ambition in life was “to be a mommy”.   When her parents moved to Meadowvale Road, she met the love of her life at a barn dance.  A good-looking fellow who drove a Model A Ford.  They married in 1947 and built a home on Bellamy Road, Scarborough for their growing family.  A dream of living on a farm was realized in 1961 when they relocated to a 200-acre property in Goodwood.  She became quite proficient at baking, pickling, churning butter and cheese and baking bread.  How she found time for sewing was beyond us.  She devoted herself to her family and caring for her ailing parents.

In 1968, life would change again when they came to faith in Jesus Christ.  They were led to convert the Old Carriage Shop on Highway 47 into a place of worship.  They remained faithful until its closing.  A few years following Fred’s death in 2017, Edna moved to Buckingham Manor in Stouffville where she truly enjoyed the remainder of her life, developing friendships and being cared for.  To sum up her life, Edna exemplified a prayer warrior with a servant’s heart.  She lived well her ambition of being “mommy.”

She is forever missed by her children Fred Smith Jr., Gail Gaston (Geof), Heather Shaw (Ken), Brenda Petersen and Overton Smith (Moniquie), 15 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
