Margaret Beryl Smith of Port Sydney, Ontario, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2025, at Fairvern Nursing Home in Huntsville, surrounded by her loving family. She was 77 years old.
Born in London, Ontario, Margaret was the cherished daughter of the late Jack and Nona Skinner and beloved sister to John, Tim, Ted, Walter, Mary, and Nora. At 20, she moved to Port Sydney where she met her husband Ron Smith during a snowstorm—an encounter that led to a beautiful 55-year marriage and a life built on faith, love, and community.
She leaves behind her children: John (Frances Wilbur), Carolyn, and Susan (Matt) Fisher; and adored grandchildren: Sam, Martha, Ben, and Tori. She found joy in her garden, crafting pressed flower cards and delicate paper embroidery—each made with love and prayer.
Margaret’s commitment to service was quiet but impactful. She created programs for children and seniors, offered transportation for seniors to receive communion, led the Rosary Apostolate, and supported women in need through Birthright.
The family deeply thanks Nora Skinner, Jerilyn Roycroft, Darian and Lesley from Milk & Cookies Homecare, and the staff at Fairvern Nursing Home for their compassionate care.
A Funeral Mass celebrating Margaret’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Huntsville. A reception will follow, with interment at 2:00 p.m. at Stephenson Memorial Cemetery in Port Sydney.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Muskoka in Margaret’s memory.
Memories and notes of condolence may be shared at Billingsley Funeral Home.
