SMYTH, George “Alex” Alexander Smyth February 12, 1937 - June 14, 2025
SMYTH, George “Alex” Alexander Smyth

On June 14th, 2025, God peacefully called George Alexander Smyth at the age of 88. Known to most as “Alex”, to his wife as “Alec”, and to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as “Nanu”, he will be forever missed by those who were fortunate to know and love him.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Phyllis, daughter Carol (John), son David (Filomena), grandchildren Christopher (Lisa), Alexa, Matthew, and Nicole, and great-grandchildren Samuel, Charlie, and Noa. Also remembered by his brother Trevor (Lynette). He joins in eternal rest his brothers Graham and Ivan.

Born in Carlisle, England, to Irish parents, Alex chose to immigrate to Canada rather than pursue medical school. From working in the mines of Flin Flon, Manitoba, to succeeding in procurement at Massey Ferguson, and later establishing his own successful landscaping and property business, Alex’s story was one of resilience, intelligence, and bold ambition.

To his family, Alex was everything—a strong provider, sage advisor, loyal friend, and warm storyteller. His memory lives on through the generations he supported, inspired, and cherished.
