SNIP, Albertje Snip

With great sadness, we said goodbye to our mother, grandmother and Oma.

Albertje Snip was predeceased by her beloved husband, Onne, in April 2025. She will be deeply missed by her daughters: Ina (David), Alice (Chris), Wendy (Ralph), Michele (Murray), Catherine (Peter), and Christine (Leon), as well as her 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and one more great-grandchild expected to arrive in October.

Betty immigrated to Canada from the Netherlands in May 1954 through Pier 21 in Halifax. She and Onne were married in August 1954. They settled in the Toronto area before moving to Fergus and later making Guelph their home for many years. Betty spent her last 10 years in Woolwich Township.

Our mother was always an active and busy woman. She introduced us to sewing, knitting, needlepoint, and crochet (making sure we learned the proper way!). Mom loved to sing in the church choir and was often at her sewing machine, making clothes for us or doing alterations for clients at high-end boutiques in and around Guelph. She also loved cycling, golfing, and cross-country skiing. We all looked forward to receiving Mom’s hand-knit socks, slippers, hats or mitts each Christmas.

Betty had a life well lived, filled with love, laughter and happiness. She will be dearly missed by her many friends and relatives in both Canada and the Netherlands.

We would like to thank the staff at Heritage House (formerly Derbecker’s). We are truly grateful for the wonderful care Mom received during her final years.

Friends and relatives will be received from 1 p.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 31, 2026 at Floradale Mennonite Church, 22 Florapine Rd., Floradale. Following the service, interment for Betty and Onne will take place in Floradale Mennonite Cemetery, and all are welcome to join the family for a reception in the fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Mennonite Central Committee would be appreciated in Betty’s memory, and may be made through the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira.
