SOARES, Herminia Ladislau Soares
October 27, 1927 - June 2, 2026
After a full life filled with joy, love and struggles, at 98 years of age, Mom decided she was ready to leave this life on earth and join Dad. On June 2, 2026 at 3:50 PM, Mom peacefully slipped away with family at her side.
Herminia Ladislau Soares was the beloved wife of Leo (2007) with whom she shared 59 years of marriage. Loving mother of Vic Soares and Rose McCabe (2023), Leonor Soares (1950), Margaret and Glen French, Liz and John Cormier, and Tony and Lisa Soares. Devoted Avo of Natalie and Jay, Chris and Larissa, Gregg and Kellie, Elenna and Michael, Chad and Nicole, and Alyssa and Marc. Her greatest joy was with her great grandchildren: Maia, Keshan, Arjay, Ethan, Lincoln, Celina, Harper and Isla.
Predeceased by her parents Francisco and Maria, and her siblings Francisco, Julia, Ventura, Deolor, Eliziaria and their spouses.
Born in Vila Franca de Xira, Portugal on October 27, 1927, Mom grew up surrounded by vineyards, fruit trees and gardens. On February 8, 1948, Mom and Dad were married and started their life together. In August 1958, Dad immigrated to Canada and in February 1959 Mom followed. The first few years were not easy but together Mom and Dad built a beautiful life. Their dedication and love for each other and for our family never wavered. Mom loved to cook our favourite Portuguese dishes and there was always plenty for anyone who might stop in. She loved flowers, gardening and most of all, being with family and friends. She was strong, determined, caring, and kind to everyone she met.
We would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the caregivers and staff at Chartwell Oak Park LaSalle, Huron Lodge and our friends and family for their care, kindness and support.
In Mom’s memory, in lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation to the Salvation Army or the charity of your choice.
In honouring Mom’s wishes, a private service will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at Windsor Chapel Banwell 11677 Tecumseh Rd. E., Windsor, ON N8N 4S5 followed by internment at Heavenly Rest Cemetery. 5005 Howard Ave., Windsor, ON N9H 1Z5.
