SORLY, John Scott Sorley
February 8, 1930 - November 25, 2025
SORLEY, John “Jack” Scott – Passed away peacefully at the Greater Niagara General Hospital on November 25, 2025 at the age of 95. Beloved husband of Margaret for 72 years. Loving father of Sue Sorley, Cindy (John) Rotella, Wendy (Philip) Sorley-Jones, and Jacklyn Sorley (Chris Dick). Caring grandfather of Sarah (Adrianna), Emily (Fraser) and Conner. Great-grandfather of Islay. Dear brother in-law of Carla Sorley, Dora Simon, Judy Simon, Elizabeth Phelps and George Simon.
Predeceased by his siblings James “Jim” Sorley, Alexander “Alex” (Betty) Sorley and Mary Helen (Harold) Detlor, in-laws Frank Simon, Louis Simon, Lula Simon, Steve and Matilda Simon and Brinley Phelps. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Parents James and Heriot Sorley immigrated to Canada from Scotland in 1920. Jack was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario on February 8, 1930. He completed his Sheet Metal Apprenticeship in 1952 and was a highly skilled Sheet Metal worker specializing in HVAC builds and installation as a member of the Sheet Metal Workers International Association – Local Union 537 for over 40 years. He began his career as part owner of St. Catharines Plumbing and Heating and later spent many years working with Blenkhorn and Sawle Ltd. and E.S. Fox.
Jack was an avid fisherman making annual trips to his favourite fishing spot in Callander Ontario to Prosper Pine Cottages on Lake Nipissing with both friends and family. He was an accomplished athlete engaging in many sports with his true passion playing hockey. His passion for the Toronto Maple Leafs was unwavering.
Jack had a wonderful sense of humour and a true love for his sweets. We will always remember his dedication and love for his family. His legacy is one of integrity, craftsmanship and unwavering love. We will always love you Dad.
Cremation has taken place. Friends and family are invited to Morse & Son Funeral Home, 5917 Main Street, Niagara Falls on Saturday December 20, 2025 from 10 am to 12 pm. A funeral service to celebrate his life will follow at 12 pm. Those who wish may make a memorial donation to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.
